Replacing Voltage regulator on Super A

How should I wire a replacement VR 6volt positive ground saddle mount which has three terminals on one side marked F,Batt,L and one on the other side under the VR? The original is a Delco with three terminals-Two on one side with a wire going from one terminal to the generator. There are two wires from the harness-one going to the generator, the other to the Bat terminal on the VR. How should I polarize the generator? Are original Delco vr's still available if this one doesn't work out? Thanks in advance for your help.

The F terminal goed to the Field (F) terminal on the Generator. The L terminal goes to the power input on the light switch. The Bat wire goes to the amp meter (where the Bat wire is now, it is not the terminal with a wire going to the starter switch). The terminal under the new regulator is probably labeled Arm it goes to the other (A) terminal on the gen. No wires will now be going directly to the gen except through the regulator. The old wire connected to the F terminal must be disconnected and taped. Jim
Look up Bob M wiring diagrams for more info. Jim

Just get the regulator made for your generator check the Delco Remy# on the gen. Must be an early SA or it wouldn't have a saddle mount. So the gen will be either a 1101423 or a 1101355

I wouldn't use a 4 terminal regulator when the original had just 3. Like someone else said buy the regulator that matches the generator. Steiner has the correct regulators. I've gotten a bad "out of the box" regulator from Steiner but they were good about replacing it.
