International 384 remote hydraulic

Running H

New User
Howdy. Looking to add remote hydraulics to my 384 for pulling a drill. My Family has had this tractor since 1982 and I believe that my Granddad used to pull a round baler with it; therefore, I am almost certain it had some type of remote.

Can it be done? If so how?

Anybody have any experience with this?

Thank you for any help.

Hi, it can be done in different methods depending on requirements.

Answer the following questions to determine the requirements:
1) Do you require to use the 3pt hitch at the same time?
2) Is only a single acting cylinder required? Lift pressure only, gravity down?

See attached photo of 384 with home made single acting remote hydraulic outlet controlled by 3pt lift lever with the Shut Off valve at the front of the seat in the Closed position.
I believe the plug that is removed in front of the seat on the hydraulic valve module is a standard 1/2 inch pipe thread. There are special instructions on how to setup the 3pt lift lever to operate the
remote cylinder, they are in the Operator's Manual.

Single acting using 3pt lever attachment

Jim, Thank you for getting back with me.

1) I would like to retain use of my 3 pt when using the remote.
2) I would rather have the ability to not need gravity to push fluid back to the tractor, I would like a single set of remotes (1 in and 1 out).

In the end, if these things are not possible, then I will have to use the 3 pt or put remotes on my Ford 3400, but the 384 is such a better riding tractor that I prefer that.

Hi, if you require dual acting cylinders and use of the 3pt at the same time, the approved IH, see link 384 Dual Acting Remotes and photo of a 424 with 2 Aux Remote valves installed, lots of parts and $$
unless you find a scrap yard with a this setup.
When we had 384 we had an IH 1550 loader on it and we would either remove the loader arms and bucket and use the loader hydraulics as remotes. Some farmers installed a 2 valve loader hydraulic control on the
right fender or somewhere else convenient and used that for remote hydraulic outlets.

This photo is of 384 with IH 1550 loader and loader hydraulic valves can be used as double acting remotes. It appears this setup the red hydraulic lines can be disconnected and swung to the rear.
This was how our 384 was plumbed but we did a better job of routing the hydraulic hoses. We had a separate set of hoses to the rear and disconnected bucket valve via quick connects on top of the valve.
This setup requires some hydraulic plumbing to make it work and I can explain it to you if required.

Jim, Thank you for the information and pictures. I am currently looking to find a salvaged 384 to steal the remotes from.
