I am dealing with another person on this site for a part that is worth $300-$500 - we haven't agreed on a price yet.
How do I guarantee that I get the part after we agree on the price and how does he guarantee that he gets paid.

All I want is to get the part at a reasonable price and make sure that he gets his money!

There are probably easier ways to accomplish this, but a seller could put something on ebay as a private auction and give the buyer the number. The buyer purchases the item using paypal, which protects both parties. Naturally, there is a fee involved.

The best way is in person, with cash.

If that's not practical look into an escrow service. Only thing is that will cost you money. Ebay can be used as a crude escrow, but they take 10% of the price of the item and paypal takes another 3%.

You could always just trust each other. eBay is way worse than this site could ever hope to be as far as people running scams or flaking out.

If there's this much "peering across the table" going on at this stage of the negotiation, though, I'd just call the whole thing off.

I find people on this site to be honest. I do work on mags etc & I tell them if I don't get paid I will let everybody on YT know about them!

I have dealt with people on this site for years. I have sold stuff, bought stuff and given things away and have enjoyed all transactions. Never had a problem or issue of any kind. Sometimes I have paid in advance and sometimes not. If you are that concerned you must have a reason, and I would terminate the transaction. Ellis

I always just send a check in the mail once I agree on a price. When they receive the check and it clears their bank, they will ship it to me. I've also sold stuff that same way. Never have had a problem over the 20 years I've done it but maybe 4-5 times. Generally, these people are honest and will make it right if something doesn't go smooth. You've got to trust people. Dont make it difficult and annoying.

Just FYI, there's a farm supply business near here specializes in M-M, if you know who I mean, that goes ahead and ships whatever it is the customer is asking for, and they just wait for the check in the return mail. Never had a problem.

Be sure that when he ships it that you get a confirmation number that you can track. I paid $100 for something that someone did not ship immediately. Long story short, he got paid and I got nothing. He felt it was my fault for waiting to long to contact him between the second and third call.
