1586 clutch pivot

This pivot bracket broke on the 15, Is there a reason I can't pivot it off the bellhousing. I just put in the silver bolt so I could move the tractor. Is there suppose to be something from the 3/8 hole on the original pivot to the 5/8 ? hole on the bell housing to help support it. The bracket looks to have been cracked for a while but it let go suddenly. Do I just weld the bracket backet together and keep an eye on it, or is there a better fix?

Original 86 series did pivot off the bell housing. That caused a lot of jumpy clutches so IH made up a conversion package to the one armed pivot you have there that broke. It worked well but did not have enough support so they eventually broke off like yours. The next improvement was a straddle mounted pivot that instead of the single arm one.

Cab mounts are a prominent factor in good clutch operation also. They designed a new improved cab mount also to over come the failures of the mounts. I never did trust those one armed pivots, too many bend and break.

Kind of surprised that any of the single leg brackets still exist.
They weren't very old when the failures started. Usually just added a reinforcement plate to get them going again.
The updated straddle mount bracket kit appeared very quickly and we were pretty aggressive about replacing the single leg brackets.
