After reading TV's experience. I have a question. I talked to a lot of men that have been through triple and quadruple bypass surgery. They talked about having feelings of hopelessness and despondency for a period of time afterwards, even though the physical recovery was coming along fine. Just wondered if anybody here has experienced that situation.

My Dad had a quad done prolly in 2002. Took him awhile to get right. Think not being able to do more after surgery messes up your mind. Recovery of your body and mind need to happen.

After I had my triple bypass, I didn't feel hopeless or despondent, or anything that bad.

The doctors really limited my physical activity, and I wasn't supposed to do much at all for the first two weeks afterward. And then I had to gradually ease into more and more activity.

So the sitting around doing nothing got a little irritating (mostly boring), but I knew it was only a matter of time before the restrictions would be eased.

I sure didn't want to screw up anything inside my chest, so I behaved pretty well and did what I was told to do.

I know the depression and feeling of hopelessness can happen though, because they asked about that a lot during cardiac rehab.

I'm "only" 63 years old, and I've got plenty of things I need and want to do yet, so I didn't have any problems looking forward to better times for myself.

If I'd have been 83, maybe I'd have felt differently and been less optimistic? I don't know.
