Mccormick w4

Hi everyone. Last night i ended up getting a 1949 mccormick w4. Tin is in awesome shape and it is in overall good condition. It is having some issues with running though. Im assuming ill have to take the carb off and clean it as it looks like i hasnt been off for many years. Is there anything special to watch out for with these machines. It idles fine but dose not like being under load. And smells extremely rich in the extaust when you rev it up. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Nothing special about them, but fine workhorse tractors. The bottom front of the carb has a largish screw sticking
forward. This is the adjustment for mixture control at full load. If there is fuel smell when it is misfiring, it
could be from the misfire, and not just rich. Rich usually runs well (unless it is pouring out dense black smoke)
Lean always misfires, and can be fixed by turning CCW at 1/4 turn per test, to richen the mix. Either way, this is
the place to change the load mixture. Starting at about 4 turns out from fully in (light touch on the screw driver
to avoid seat damage) will be ~ close Jim
