1086 remote hydraulic problems

Hello
I have a IH 1086 tractor
We use it to disk land and plant with
A lot of the time when I use the remote hydraulic to raise or lower the disk down I have to hold the handle forcing the valve to work
What problems could be causing this

The function you are asking about is called the "detent" where the lever clicks into place and then "kicks out" when the cylinder reaches the end of its stroke. It will not always work on heavy implements such as a disk which require high pressure to lift.

Additionally it may be worn or out of adjustment. How to adjust is a task I am not familiar with on these tractors. It should be covered in a service manual.

If it has the same valves as the previous series you can adjust the detent by taking the little plug cap off the end of the valve opposite the lever then with a screwdriver turn the screw in or out to adjust for more or less as you like. To tight will lock it in place and not be able or very hard to move lever after moving. You will get the idea as you do it. Only takes a small amount of movement on the screw maybe an 1/8th of a turn. It could also be they have been removed like ours are.
Like Barnyard said also those don't work as well on heavy implements that require more lift pressure.
This is only for the open center valves. I'm not sure how they adjust the closed center ones on the later models of the 86 series. I understood they had some closed center hydraulics on the later ones. I could be wrong on that part though.
