Question about radiator cap on H

It looks to be an origional cap on a 48 H Farmall. It dosnt seal particulary tight. Would this cause it to run hot?

A new cap isnt going to hurt, but sounds like you have other issues. Possibly clogged up rad, weak water pump, crud in the block ,bad tstat.

(quoted from post at 20:41:53 06/03/19) had a new thermostat in it. Bought new plugs today. Radiator dosnt leak.
If you are running an automotive thermostat, that could be what is making it get so hot.

The answer is NO. The caps never seal tight on a Farmall. There is no pressure in the tank. Air must get in around the cap( or thru the little hole in the top of the cap) so the fuel will flow. The gas line is a gravity feed to the carb wihich is an up draft style No fuel pump.

I may be a city boy but even I know the difference between a gas cap and a radiator cap.

Sounds like the rad needs blown out full in the fins. Blow out the rad with air compressor till you can see through it with a light behind it. All will be good again.
