no different than any gas engine. start diagnosing if fuel is getting to carb. plus check for spark at the plugs. plus is it switching over to the gas side with the lever.

Not much to them , make sure the starting tank if full, make sure the throttle is all the way closed to shut down on the diesel side , pull compression lever , pull coke , crank engine . Now what to look for if it does not start is like the rest of the gas engines , except ya got to make sure the manifold switch is working . If yours has a mag then unhook the wire going to the manifold . If yours has a dist. with battery ing. make sure your getting juice thru the maniflod switch to the coil then on down to the points . Once you have all that out of the road then look into the starting carb and make sure that the float is working when you make the switch as along with letting the mag or points do there job the switch over also opens and closes the float on the starting car band opens the ports. They are not that hard for us old geesers that grew up around them.

One other thing to check for other than what Tractor Vet said, is to make sure the butter-fly is closing in the manifold when you switch to gas. One year I couldn't get my 650-D to run on gas and I found the butter-fly was not be fully closed. Manually closed it and it started right up. I check this every spring when I start it for the 1st time. Al

You need to find an I&T shop manual for gas start diesels, it will help you a lot. Carburetors can be problem if float has gone bad. Don't forget starting valve adjustment, make sure they are opening.
