Farmall 450LP

I'm working on my newly acquired 450LP. Taking apart the regulator and carb for inspection, cleaning and repair. Plenty of soot to clean, diaphragms are intact, fairly flexible, no holes or tears. Is there any special way to clean these. Remove the diaphragms and use carb cleaner? Any pitfalls or common failures?

I have a line in on a regulator kit which I'll order, but am interested in learning if I can work with what I have.

The best thing to put on the Diaphragm in the regulator, to keep it soft is Brylcreem, yes the stuff we use to put in our hair, nothing better to keep it soft and plyable, the needle and seat is attached to that, act like a float in a gas carb. To be honest never heard of soot getting in there, where would that come from? There a place in Minneapolis that can change it over , Ensign is a thing of the past. May i ask whats your serial number, i got one too,10,172 CS. A friend about 25 miles has a twin to mine, but he changes the intake/exhuast manifold and it helped for power, but mine has a LP Manifold, but the guys in Minneapolis, actually it's in Shakopee ,Minn, are pretty good with LP stuff!

My serial is 20xxx.

What I'm calling soot is probably residue from the propane. It just reminded me of soot is all.

I have a regulator kit coming from Steek Wheel Ranch. Not cheap.

Ok,, L.P. Gas has some grease or oil in it sometimes,i would notice it in grain dryer, but never had it show up in the tractor. So Steel Wheel Ranch, has new Ensign regulator parts ?? The only thing mine hasn't got power steering,Why they ordered them with out, i will never know!

He only has the diaphragm and gasket kit. No hard parts. He didn't seem to have anything for the carb.

We'll see when I get the parts.
