Fuel shutoff solenoid for IH 444

Most people just cut the end off and screw it back in. It was one of those better ideas to stop dieseling when you shut the engine off.

So the needle does not meter the fuel flow at all?

It's simply a shutoff solenoid that jams the main jet shut to prevent "dieseling" and muffler backfire when a hot engine is shut down.

If you chose to replace it, it's part #389679R95, about $95 at the dealer.

You could call an independent carb parts suppler such as Mark's carburetor and ask what their price is.

Mark's (320) 393-7272

Mine looks like it used to have the solenoid, as the wire is still there for it. It was apparently removed by the previous owner. Watching Mark's Rebuild Video on youtube, I was under the impression that it could be replaced by what is called a Power Adjusting Needle??? Facts be known, my 444 diesels like crazy after being shut down hot, which I really don't like. If anyone can shed light on that, it could help both me and the OP.

Yes, I was told I can't just remove it, needs to be replaced with a load needle that is $35, otherwise it will diesel.

I read an article today that stated that if you have dieseling, then the idle mixture may be set too far in. So, if you have that after installation, like I do, try an idle adjustment. I will try it myself, if I ever get my axle put back in.

My tractor had similar solenoid. Removed it and replaced with mechanical adjuster. ( Poer needle ). Runs good with no firseling.

Good to know thanks. The reason I am rebuilding this carb is because all of the sudden the engine stopped receiving fuel. First thing I checked was the solenoid, it still works. If I still have trouble after the rebuild I might buy the load needle and remove the solenoid.

Mikes CARB HAS THEM i THINK . If I am thinking of correct model I believe ther are two needles of about same length which are a little different in length . You have to get correct one . He has some good videos which might help . And yes, carb adjustment and SOMETIMES octane number can affect dieseling . My two cents....but it is free !

Yeah, I talked to Mike's carbs about this issue, they have the needle for $35. I should have the carb rebuilt tonight, hope to try it out on the tractor tomorrow, see how it goes...
