140 hard to start

140 is hard to start for cold start. then it is easy to get going.
thought the timing may need to be adjusted. what do you think?

If it runs well when started, it probably isn't the timing. A warm engine turns easier than a cold engine. the cold engine thus robs voltage from the battery/starting cables/starter/ignition. If the battery is mediocre, or not fully charged, or if the cables are small or partially broken, or a connection is getting corroded, or if the starter motor is getting worn, it can have low voltage to the ignition and prevent easy starting. You may have a less than perfect float, needle, seat, in the carb that's allowing just a little leakage and fuel is accumulating in the air intake portion of the carburetor creating a "too rich" condition after the tractor sits for some time. You might try to start the tractor with the throttle open and see if that helps. If it does, then that's likely the case. If it's only leaking a little, I'd sure live with it, you can go crazy trying to keep those carburetors from leaking.
