M axle change

I need to change axle housing on 47 M (cracked). I have a whole replacement assembly with axle in. After reading old posts and looking at pix, and going through PTO my question is the bull gear, so that gets unbolted, I hold onto it set it straight down while assistant with engine hoist pulls out axle housing? then reverse to reassemble. Does that sound ok? Corrections or tips appreciated! if I have problem I have had the top cover off before but would like to try this. Ive read about pipe to help with pto. Thanks

That sounds like the way it was described to me. I was told it was a young man's sport doing this in the field with a mounted picker by an IH mechanic.
