48 Super A - Hydraulics don t work

Hydraulics worked two weeks ago when I bought the tractor. It turns out the hydraulics fluid was leaking into the crankcase oil so I did an oil change and replaced all the seals and gaskets in the hydraulic pump. I put two quarts of 30W oil into the hydraulic pump and started up the tractor. From what I can tell, I don t believe it is leaking anymore; so that s one problem solved. Long story short, now the hydraulics aren t working. When I push the throttle all the way up and adjust the touch controls, it sounds like it is trying to work. I ve rotated the rear bar, so I know it s not jambed. Air in the system? Not sure what the issue is now, thoughts?

The throttle doesn't have to be wide open. An idle will suffice. Work the control back and forth 10 to 15 times. that should purge the air. If that doesn't work, there may be some crap in the internal valveing. The filter screen may also be plugged. It should be a flat plate about 2" square on the side. Has a small bolt on each corner.

Delta, is this the panel you were talking about?

Yes, that is the hydraulic filter. On my 140 I just rinsed it with some hydraulic fluid. My 140 is basically a newer version of the Super A.

If I open it, is it going to drain all of my fluid out like the drain plug? And is it under pressure? I d hate to waste all the oil I put in.

I would guess so. I opened it after we drained the system.

Found out it is 4 quarts.

I have two quarts out of the four quarts in it, I m hoping the oil level is low enough when I open the panel nothing comes out.
