I?ve got the y?all filter canister and a Fram C136A from this website. Filter does not fit flush against base where o- ring goes. Is this correct ?

The problem you describe (I think) is a common one. The old square section Oring is still in the housing. They turn to a rock hard cinder and must be doug out with major force and sharpe small screw drivers and dental picks. Jim

I got the o ring out but the lower outlet of the filter cartridge doesn?t go in deep enough to allow the body of the filter to sit flush on the base

The filter is not pressurized. It takes a small amount of oil from the pressure gallery and runs it through an orifice. then the filter, then a drain back to the oil pan. I hope this helps. Jim

I don't understand the lower outlet of the filter, unless it's the wrong filter ! The big end of the filter should fit nicely into the socket of the filter housing ! If you got the old o rings out, the canister fits the groove with 1 o ring in there!

The "neck" of the element seals into the base, and it's not necessary for the whole body of the filter to squat down against the base.

This is ASSUMING the housing will fit down over the filter and seat against the square-cut O-ring.

Exactly. I just wanted to be sure. Just seems like an odd
filtration system. Bolt goes thru ok and canister tightens down
ok, just noticed the filter wouldn?t seat flush with housing plate.

Check to make sure you got ALL the old orings out I have seen them jammed down in there, if you can not hear metal with a pick keep working at it, spray some gum cutter on the groove and let it sit for 5 minutes what ever is in there will loosen up

I just did mine on my SA the other day, I had to buy a pack of picks and small screwdrivers to scrape the old o-rings out. When I did that, it solved my problem of not getting the new o-ring and canister to sit flush.

It seals around the neck and does NOT lie flat on the base. It stands up off the plate some.BTW,it is not a 'full flow' filter, but rather a 'bypass' type. Meaning only some of the oil gets filtered as it passes through the main passage

I had to really pick down in here to get it out. The canister isn t going to sit down in the groove. When you tighten it, twist the canister to create a seal. Will it leak?
