Would it be a bad idea to shorten the manifold pipe on my A

Would it be a bad idea to grab a pipe cutter and cut an inch or two off the manifold pipe for clearance purposes? I m about 1-2" shy of my garage bay. Every time I use the tractor, I have to take the muffler on/off which is a little bit of a pain. Thoughts?

Wow that's got plenty of extra on it. I
have the pipe on my A so that with the
muffler slid down over it, there's about
an inch between the top of the hood and
the bottom of the muffler inlet pipe.
Cut'er down.

Very good, good to know. Just wanted to make sure that height didn t have to do with heat dispersement or something. I ll be chopping it down by quite a bit then!

OP, I expect your tractor looks like the one in the pic with the long pipe, IMHO it looks like a sore azz,They did not come from the factory like that. its your call but it serves no purpose

Any recommendations on a pipe cutter to cut it with without having to take the pipe off of the tractor ? It looks like my manifold pipe would never be able to screw back in if I take it off

don't take the pipe out because it will must likely twist off and you will be in a jamb
use a hacksaw or cut-off wheel on a grinder. if you ever need to replace the pipe heat the manifold with a torch and make sure the threads are turning out while you are turning the pipe- (insure the threads are turning with the upper portion of the pipe)then get the threads chased ( cleaned) with the proper pipe thread tap
