Hey guys got the 1066 running went to drive it went fine then I tried to go backwards and when I put it in reverse I started going forwards. Any ideas? Transmissions worn but didn?t think it?d do this...

It may just be the adjustment on the linkage operating the plunger going into transmission. If adjusted correctly, you will have to move lever about the width of lever in each direction. If adjustment is that far off it would take considerable less movement that that when going to forward position.

Do your checking with range lever in neutral to start with. Easy things first as there are other possible problems.

Ok ill see what i can figure out on it today. Has anyone rebuilt one of these transmissions before? Wheres the best place to get the rebuild kit? How hard is it to rebuild? Thanks

Frankly, I don't think anybody has tried to rebuild one of these transmissions in their home shop. It's just not something the typical home shop is equipped, or clean, enough to do.

The need to rebuild them is becoming less and less frequent, because there aren't as many of them and the tractors don't get used as much. Used to be you could get them rebuilt at any IH dealer.

Best place to send the transmission right now is Herrs Machine which I think is in Kansas. They're one of the few places left that still works on them.
