Zenith carb leaking gas

I rebuilt this Zenith carb # 213348 (1955 Farmall 100) and it leaks gas when not running. I replaced the needle valve and seat. I read somewhere in an older thread, that the float may need adjusting. How would I do that?

If you rebuilt it from a carb kit, there will be instructions and a L shaped paper gauge to set the proper level of the float. Be gentle with it if you have to do any adjusting.

split the carb in half, turn the float half upside down. then eye up the float . it is to be sitting level on the needle. that's all there is to it. if not adjust so it is level. thats what float level means. have you checked to make sure its not heavy? meaning it may have a hole in it. even shake it and listen if it has gas in it. a couple of 1/32's ether was hardly matters. did it leak before? most time its the needle not seating , but can be a heavy float also.

Double check to make sure your new gasket isn't blocking the bowl vent. I've had some without a hole to vent the bowl and it'll cause leaks.

Johhny, I had the same experience and couldn't ever find anything wrong so I installed a brass ball valve between the carb and the air cleaner and no more leaking. Friends of mine shut theirs off at the fuel bowl but mine doesn't close well and I don't think it is for everyday use.

interesting. I would get a drip every hour from the weep hole by the choke plate. My friends are the same.
