Farmall H Head

JBR2017

New User
I got to find a new/used head for my daughters tractor. It has the casting #s 8043-DC. I've been reading that they are interchangeable. I just want to make sure before I buy the wrong one thanks.

The heads are interchangeable as far as bolting to the block and manifold. But they have to match up with the coinciding pistons. Meaning, if you have domed pistons, you can't use a head that's for flat top pistons, and vise versa. They made gas, distilate, and kerosene burning heads. Not sure if any used the same pistons, but I do know two of these did not use the same pistons. I am just guessing, but thinking the distilate and kerosene burners might of used the same pistons and heads, but I don't know this for a fact.

Little more info. That head will replace 8043D to DB that can have small changes in ports and other. Only thing is some real early heads only had 3/8 manifold studs instead of 7/16. 8043DD was also made after that. Some other heads will work but you only asked if the 8043D will. 8043DC will work with any standard piston made for a H. Unless you want a low compression head with a different number for restoring to original the 8043DC will work fine unless building engine for top performance. Unless you get into a LP head the 8043DC can be made to perform close to any of the other heads.

Thanks for the info. The only thing we will be doing with the old girl is pull hay wagons and parades.
