Help to identify Farmall 460 broken part

I am trying to help my neighbor with his IHC 460. Can someone educate me what this unit is and what gear he has broken? And where he can get a replacement? I'm more used to Fords and John Deere and a bit ignorant over here in the Red. The photos tell it better than me, thanks for any help, Paul

I wopuld believe that is the "tel a depth" valve. Used with 560 and 460 with fast hitch. I believe it is to set depth on an implement and then be able to return to the same depth. It works with a quite complicated set of linkage to the fast hitch. I have never used one though I have a parts tractor with that valve on it. I would think easiest replacement would be to find a complete valve at a salvage yard. If you don't find one let me know, I could probably pull the one off of my parts tractor. Others here could probably tell you how well thatsystem actually works.

Is this a necessary part just to plow a small garden each spring? Is this just automatic draft control? Self leveling deal? If so can't he bypass this mechanism and raise/lower manually? He is not restoring it, just plowing a garden spot every year, thanks, Paul

System works well if in good condition. Many have been changed to the regular style valve if not used often for setting the return depth of the hitch.

A temporary "fix" would be to take the hoses off just above the cylinder in the back , put adapters on them and then couplers and put them into the rear remotes and use a different valve. You will also need to remove the cable or rod from the hitch so it does not try to change positions. He will have to watch the depth each time or put depth stops on the cylinder shaft to control the depth. Put plugs in the open hole and hopefully the lever for the tele depth system does not get moved or the system will go on high pressure.

Also, the bolt in the cover is a special added part, and was used when you put a mounted picker on the tractor so you could not raise or lower the hitch with picker on.

Gears get broke when trying to use hitch with bolt locking it out but lever was not locked or someone installed external linkage backwards. I cannot remember for sure just how you adjusted the lever and bolt to obtain hydraulic neutral and hitch in correct position.
