how hard will it be to replace the seal and gasket around the pto shaft on an M? mine is leaking? ive got a new seal and gasket ordered. This is going to be a new issue to deal with.

I rebuilt the carb today and when I took it apart, I bet there was 3/16 or more rusty sludge and muck in the bottom. took a bet to clean it out. after cleaning, I put in a new parts kit and boy did it make a difference. now I cant wait till it dries up again so I can see what Maggie will do with the new 8' disk

there is always somthing to work on in my herd.

Not hard at all. Just clean the shaft good and remove just that outer cover. You will lose some oil or park the tractor on a hill facing down.
Don't pull the shaft out. It will be a bear to put it back in.
If you do happen to pull it out slip a length of pipe over the tail end to balance the shaft as you stab it back in.

If the seal housing is like the one on my Super MD, you have all kinds of room to move the seal location to a virgin area on the PTO shaft.

On my h seems like the new seal was
actually a 2 piece seal the original was
1 very thick one probably get at napa seem
like one seal turn one direction other
opposite direction its been to long since
i changed mine

If you can, park the tractor nose down in a ditch and you can pull PTO assembly without losing or having to drain the oil.

When reassembling, it helps to have a piece of close fitting pipe to slip over the end of the pto. You then have leverage to help
control it and make it a lot easier to get the pilot on the front end into its bushing.
