Desperate - IH 25 Potato Planter Broke Axel

I am desperate.

Our IH Model 25 BROKE THE LEFT AXEL planting potatoes today.

I got the built assembly around the axel and all out.

But where o where can I get this part???

The actual wheel axel snapped off just after the threads.

Screw a nut on the threads then vee it out and weld it back together. Ready to go. Or you could order a new spindle from Shoups in Kankakee IL Free shipping with $200.00 + orders.

Take it to a machine shop. They can either weld it back together for you or make you a new one. This isn't something you're going to find on the shelf at the local CaseIH dealer.

I'm told, "A weld on this will not hold."
And is a non-standard size; Shoups no have comparable part that would substitute. But thanks. -/wz

CIH Dealer says, "Obsolute machine and parts. NONE available, anywhere."

Anybody know of/where a slavage used IH25 Planter, for the part, might be available?

That main shaft looks to be 1 3/4 or 2 inch material.
A shop can turn a new piece right down to the thread &
taper.

Other possibility is to get a new piece from Shoup &
use a pipe sleeve to weld both sections together.

How critical is the length of the shaft---does the wheel
have to be a certain length, or can it stick out more
than the original did??
You can get the stub shaft & weld it with the pipe sleeve
thing.

A good machinist should make short work of that . Just my opinion

Pretty sure Shoup sells stub shaft & hub assemblies
of different sizes.

That wheel / tire assembly reminds me of a 303 combine
drive wheel. Might be worth a check.

Option B is to find a machinery scrap yard up in
Wisconsin where they raise lots of potatoes.

Go to Pioneer Rim and wheel,Mpls Minnesota, they got every size made on hand, with new 8 -10 bolt hubs on hand, or get one made, That one didn't hold either, so get the next size bigger diameter !!

The most direct route to repair would be a machine shop.
If looking for salvage, NOT ALL PLANTERS ARE THE SAME.
I have a 1951-52 No. 25 Potato Planter. It just has a straight axle with sleeve bushings, not wheel bearings.
I have a PM-201 Parts Manual Revision 1, dtd 2/62 printed in Canada. There is no reference to your type of axle with wheel bearings. My Owner's Manual dtd 1/5/51 also only shows sleeve bushings.
Although your planter is very similar to mine there are also other differences. Either there have been significant updates in the design or maybe maybe it's a different model number, not a No. 25. I don't know of any other model number, but just offering the possibility.

That would be and easy fix , myself i would cut out that stub with a cutting torch and throw it in the truck and run down to the guy that does my machining work and say here make new . He would rummage around his spare pieces pile and come up with a piece of round stock And throw it in his lathe and chips would fly and in about and hour or so it would be done and another hour of welding and bolting it back on it would be back in the field .. May have to wait for a couple hours for the paint to dry .
