Farmall 560 TA problems

So I have a farmall 560 . I?ve got it with the TA not working in low side but was fine in the direct drive / high side . But now it?s is starting to slip on the high side . Does this mean that the main clutch is slipping or is the 7 ? clutch associated with the TA. Slipping ? I got about an inch of free play in the clutch peddle . I really don?t need the TA so I could get an delete shaft and not use / worry about ifuture problems .

While you can get a delete for it you will have the same amount of time involved in changing it out. Delete unit is 2/3 the cost approx. of a rebuilt one unless you go to the higher capacity one. Usually when you feel slippage in direct the main clutch is starting to go. If the 7 inch clutch slipped you would feel it try to go into torque. Of course I can be wrong---

Because the TA sprag (one way) clutch is bad, either the master clutch, or the TA friction (7") clutch can be going out with little to be distinguished between them in terms of feel. My suggestion is to repair it. Kevin Meier Is a TA repair person, and Can be found in the archives. Yhis site also sells TA repair components. Replacing the engine clutch, the live PTO drive sleeve, and the TA pieces, are the best practices solution. If the tractor has seen hard use and needs tires or other repairs, maybe not. Jim

What is the point of the installation of a "delete" for the TA? Our 460 stopped for the 3rd time 45 or more years ago and it's worked uncountable acres, baled a zillion bales of hay, etc, with no noticeable ill affect. What's the point? gm

There is no point. TA's are dark, mysterious alien contrivances, like magnetos.

"Future problems" always makes me laugh... WHAT future problems? It's not like you're replacing the TA every other year. IF you are, you're doing something very very wrong.

Unless you are very young and use your tractor VERY hard, you won't be able to wear out a TA in your lifetime, your kids' lifetimes, even your grandkids' lifetimes...

These tractors ran all day every day, worked HARD, for DECADES before needing TA work. Your few acres of hobby farm isn't going to wear the TA, let alone wear it out.

Can you even GET a delete kit? I don't think anyone sells one anymore.
