Farmall H starting issues

I have a 1945 farmall H. I have been having problems starting it with the starter button. I have rebuilt the mag and the carb, and have cleaned the points. New spark plugs. It is still a 6 volt system. The tractor will crank fine with the starter, but wont start. But if I try to pop start it, it starts as soon as I pop the clutch. I have had a valve job done and the compression it fine. Looking for solutions.

teddy52food is correct. When cranking it must click loudly to cause the mag to make enough voltage to fire the plugs. It is an impulse
coupling. Jim

I apologize if this does not apply. because I don't know anything about mags. My H had the same issues, but it has a regular alternator and starter, etc.. But mine would not fire, turned out the distributor cap center electrode was worn down too much. She'd spin and spin, but not fire. Replaced the cap and rotor, fired right up and has fired up ever since. Cheap fix.

I thought the mag has a good snap. If the snap is not strong enough, what would need to be
replaced? I have put on a new rotor and cap but will check again. The tractor spins fine on the
6volt battery. Fully charged
