Repairing Touch Control Stops

Anyone else repair these stops? I see that you can buy new ones for $13.00 each plus shipping. However, I had five broken ones and the cost was going to add up. I drilled out the broken off thumb screws and tapped the holes for 1/4 inch stainless steel thumb screws. I then drilled a hole where the old stop posts were and forcibly threaded a machine screw into the hole. I coated the end of the screw with J.B. Weld before threading it in and then cut off the screw head.

I may fill the machine screw threads with J.B. Weld and grind 2 sides flat to make it look more original.

I can see how the thumb screws rust and get twisted off, but I can't figure out how the stop posts get broken off.
