I have a 1963 706 Diesel. I was mowing with it and the PTO has always worked good. I engaged the PTO and nothing. The lever to engage it feels and works like it should but the PTO does not engage, you can manually turn the PTO but does not engage. Thanks for your help!!

Is the hydralic oil level up?the pto will quit before the steering if the fluid is low, especially if the front is going down hill.I once had the little engageing plunger snap inside the pto unit.

if you can manually turn the shaft, the pto brake is probably shot.

has it been run on pto work when low on oil? good way to burn out pto clutches.

there is a tiny pin that holds the 2 parts of the pto control valve spool together that brakes sometimes. then you have nothing. remove plug at lower left of pto housing (have to remove hitch cradle first), oil will come out slowly. if the bottom part of the valve falls out, that's your problem.

make sure you set the correct lock-up pressure when you get all done. 600 psi gauge on the test port.

Most likely, its that little 50 cent pin that's the problem. It still feels like its engaging on the lever even if the pin is broke.

Where do you put the hydraulic fluid? I just purchased and have not needed to yet? My pto was turning when I bought it but now it's not. Any good manuals out there for this tractor?
