isn't there a gasket there? IH666

I took off the metal base plate (2" X 8") that the 2 oil filters sit on because it looked like it was always leaking oil around there. Unbolted the 6 and there is no gasket there! Is this correct, no gasket needed there behind this plate? Also, I thought since the oil is out, maybe I should replace that big (is it called oil pan?) gasket around the bottom. Always seems oily down around there, too. Might be leaking. Can I just unbolt all those bolts and take it off or would I need to take apart lots of other things, too? Looks to me like it would be able to come off by itself with no messing around with other parts. Having fun learning how to do all this!

The base plate for the oil filters should not leak except where the oil filters meet the base the lines fasten on or if they are element type filters with the canister then if the old oil ring is left in the base groove it can cause leaks to develop sometimes. For the oil pan are you sure it is not leaking from above some place, and running down appearing to be leaking there? If it is actually leaking at the pan gasket you may have to remove the bolster for the pan to come down. The bolster is that casting holding the U shaped rod from the front axle. If this is a row crop model, instead of a utility model.

no gaskets in there, it has O rings in there. I replaced them on my 660 because they were leaking. wash her down find the leaks and start replacing what you see.

What engine are you referring to. The D-312 engine has two engine oil filters mounted on a base that is held onto side of crankcase with six bolts and it indeed does have a gasket between it an block. No other engine used in a 666 uses two engine oil filters.

There should be a gasket for the oil filter base plate. 675398C2 is the part number.
671825C4 in the gasket you need if you decide to pull the oil pan.
Happy Wrenching!

Thanks all for your responses. Yes the D312 with 2 oil filters with the base plate attached to the block. Thanks so much for the part numbers! I have checked several sites who list this part, and none of them show a picture of this gasket. I'd like to see a picture of it.

I found the part numbers at the
Caseih parts store website. Search
666 for your tractor and 312 for your
engine parts.
