Super C-- Found my low oil pressure problem!

I dropped the oil pan to remove the oil pump and I could see the cover gasket blown out!! I took the cover off and sanded it with 400 grit to get it true again,,, new gaskets are
ordered. Thanks to this forum! I discovered a new problem while I had the pan off but I'll start a new topic for that.

You need to check the clearance with plastigauge and determine how much gasket to use. I cut my own out of some paper that gave me the correct clearance, about .001.

Yes, I was planning on checking with plasti-gauge....there was only one gasket there,Man! I can't believe how thin that gasket is!

I think it's a good idea to glue the gasket to one side, I think I did the cover, it might make it harder to blow out again. I would imagine they blow when started in colder weather with too heavy oil. I use 15-40 Delvac in our C but I never start it when it's very cold out, and I put a steel reinforcing plate on the pump cover.
