I am pulling the sleeves out of a IH 454 3 cylender diesel. I have all of the bolts out of the oil pan. however, there seems to be two dowell pins in the front of the pan. do I have to split the tractor to get the oil pan off. is there an easy way to do this.

Thank You

It wouldn't surprise me if it's necessary to unbolt the front bolster from the engine and crankcase to drop the pan.

Guess I've never thought of that as a "split".

Hi, yes there 4 bolts that connect the front bolster to the engine. I can't remember if you have to remove all 4 or just 2 and loosen the other 2. See link to parts manual.
IH Mechanics had a method of supporting front bolster, loosening the bolts, move the bolster forward a half inch and then take the bolts out to allow oil pan to drop.
