Advise on weather to buy and ih 234 or not and parts availab

Hi everyone, I m new here to the forum.
A friend of mine is selling an early 80 s ih 234 diesel tractor with hydrostatic. It s a small compact type. Three cylinder about 15 hp, 4x4, woods-dual 145 loader, woods-dual finishing mower, and and snowblower are included.
He wants $750 for all that and new tires too. The problem is the clutch disc splines stripped out... odd. He replaced the clutch and about 15 hrs later the tractor would not move again! He didn t tear into it again to see what had broke. It s odd enough that the clutch disc splines stripped out the first time. I wonder if there s flex going on at the bell housing causing stress and misalignment at the input shaft clutch area. The bell housing does have a crack by the mounting flange. What I m really worried about if if the hydrostatic drive has gone bad this time. Are there and parts available for the hydro drive?? I m just not sure if I should buy this or not if parts aren t available.. he also has a 50 s allis charmers ca with a loader for $600 if the ih doesn t work out. I m just looking for something to haul firewood out of the woods, move a little bit of dirt around, and have as a back up snow plow/clean up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a 234 gear drive tractor my dad used to own and I like the tractor. It was a tractor made in Japan for IH. The diesel has a lot of power for a little motor. It has live hydraulics but not live PTO. I've
never had to buy parts so I don't know about availability. Its a Mitsubishi diesel so if Case doesn't have parts maybe they are available somewhere else for the motor. You can look at Messicks web site and
find parts diagrams and it will tell you if parts are available for much of the tractor. One thing for sure- if you are getting older they are a hard tractor to get on and off of.

Thank you guys for the input!! I called messicks and talked to someone who seemed knowledgeable, he said the important parts for these hydro drives are not available. I guess I didn t want to stop there and give up. I mean there s gotta be parts there right? Maybe not haha. The price just seems right but that sometimes gets you in trouble too I guess...
as for the ca, it s its no gem but it does work. If it gets me by for a while I m happy, can t go wrong with the price. Not to sure on how much weight the allis can lift with the loader either.
Any more info and advise is welcome!!
