M Governor Adjustment

I just got done rebuilding an M and need to adjust the RPMs. When I give the tractor full throttle, the RPMs are higher than they should be. Can someone please explain how to adjust my governor so the RPMs when I give it full throttle are less? Is there a governor diagram somewhere that shows where this can be done? I can?t seem to find anything in my manual. Thanks in advance.

There are three adjusting places. one on top of the valve cover that the throttle hooks to.. A stop screw in the governor, remove the cover and look.Look at this one first. One on top inside on the shaft that connects to the garb.Remove the oil tube to access that one.You can figure it out....

Well if your governor is like 99% of all that i have been into it needs some rebuilding and will never work correctly till it is fixed . But first ya stat by getting the linkage scy. to the carb at full throttle so the carb butterfly is wide open and that is done up in the stand tube under the breather tube . YOu pull the hand throttle elver into the full open and then you remove the headed pin and see how the clevis lines up with the shat lever when held in the wide open by hand . Ya want the pin to slide in nice and smooth , now me i like to add 1/2 turn , yea i know that is not what the book says , it's my thing. Once this is done then to set RPM limit ya do that with the bolt that bumps against the case inside the side cover . By turning it in will slow the engine down and backing it out will increase the RPM. Now if your gov. is like the 99% where your main spring goes into the two arms you will likely had BIG SLOPPY holes as the org. bushings have long fallen out and are history . No you can not BUY them they have to be made and pressed in the holes need to be chamfered on both side due to the curve to the spring hook and be free floating but still snug enough as the spring also acts as a return to ideal when it shoves everything back. IF the holes are sloppy then you have a ideal problem and will not come back down.
