350 Utility Gas. Fixed up real nice and painted, but now has a noise coming in the front of the engine. When running it sounds good and would really have to listen close to hear anything unusual. But shutting it down, and as it’s dying, a real clatter comes from somewhere in the front. A noise like the impulse coupling on a mag would sound like? Cranking over without running, it can also be heard. We have a gear loose? Or what do you think? Thanks

If it is not the fan, it could be the cam gear retainer nut. I don't think there is a good way to see/check it from the outside. If it comes off or shears the key, it will cost more to fix it !! There is no frame, so the front bolster and wheels detach from the engine. Pretty involved. Jim

Maybe could pull the hydraulic pump to see if gear is loose?

Probably. Moving it with a pry bar forward and back would be possible. Jim
