Ok. Need a little knowledge from everyone here. So we just bought a 5140 w/ 9k hrs on it. Had the dealer check pressures and dyno it before we brought it home. 130hp and hydro clutch pressure was 295. Said normal range is 270-320.
When it stars up cold there's alot of hydraulic wine what seems to be from the steering that goes away as it warm up also sluggish shifting also till it warms up. Tonight, on her maiden voyage down one of our big hills with the forage wagon in tow. My dad went to shift to a higher gear on the powershift side and went free wheeling on him. Is this normal? He want me to order a new hydro pump, but I'm not sure.

First thing is hydraulic filter. If that makes no difference then your going to have to take it to a shop with the factory manuals and a gauge and do some diagnosing. There are several things that could be causing your issues. You do not want to hang parts on that tractor as they are very spendy and many have been discontinued. A hydraulic pump is going to cost in the $12000 area itself. Good luck!

The tractor trying to kill you is NOT normal. I don't know what would posses one to ask something like that. Not trying to be mean here, just scratchin' my head at such a question.

Yeah, there's a whole bunch of hydraulic pressures to check on these tractors, and that's just the beginning. There are also solenoids and wiring to troubleshoot.

What gear was he shifting from/to? That will help narrow down which pressure(s) and solenoid(s) to look at first.

Blindly throwing a pump on it is foolish, as it is probably not the pump. If you're getting around 2800 at the hydraulic remotes your pump is fine.

The linings could be shot on the powershift clutches for all we know...
