Super m hydraulics

How necessary is it to put a line filter in hydraulics. I know they ran for years without a changeable filter. The super A has a internal cleanable trash filter. I don't recall one on super m.

Where/ how would you install? Pics?

Not necessary. Wont hurt, but not necessary. My SuperM which 'enjoys' year around heavy use has no filter.Remember, they are pushing 60 years old,a filter probably wont make much if any difference. You can, however, change the 2 gallons of hydralic oil yearly if it makes you feel better.

Pretty much what DeltaRed says. I've run my Super M with no filter for the 25 or so years I have owned it. And my father in law worked it HARD for 35 years before that.

Only service the hydraulics have had is to drain the system/refill with fresh hydraulic fluid a couple times - once when I replaced all the flex hoses.

Incidentally my SM has Charlynn PS supplied from the live pump through a flow divider. The power steering has given no problems whatsoever.

Now I have seen a couple SM's at shows with an aftermarket filter installed in the pump suction line. But from my experience a filter is probably not needed.
