Is there a way I can ohm out a coil to know if 6 or 12 volt coil? Some of the wiring was stripped off Super M when I got it and I don't recall if it had ballast resister or not.

A 6v coil or a 12v that needs a resistor is going to measure about 2.5 ohms a 12 v coil needing no resistor will be 4.5 to 5 ohms. when the ignition is turned on and points are closed, not running, the current should be about 3 to 4 amps. Don't leave it turned on for more than 2 minutes without running. Jim

Jim, my experience has been about 1.5 and 3 ohms. Add a 1.5 ohm resistor to run 1 1/2 ohm coil on 12 volt system.

I always short the meter probes together and note that resistance, then subtract it from the reading across + and - on coil
