Super69 question

Hi, I am currently trying to get one of my fathers old tractors running. Its a International Super 69. So when i am looking at what i thought should be a magneto i see it has a distributor cap with points. I have filed the points a bit and checked for spark but nothing. could anyone tell me how to go about this with this old tractor. It appears to have a big square (coil)? just ahead of the distributor. Is there a method of checking it?

No such thig as a Super 69. Could be a Super 6 or a Super 9, but not 69. When you figure that out, we can help better. OR if you can post some pics, that would help too.

Not sure what tractor a Super 69 is. Maybe a SW6 or a SWD9. If a super 9 it would be a gas start diesel. From the description it sound like you may have a magneto. Does it look like this picture? If so make sure the terminal on the side is not grounded when starting, should have a wire from a switch to it.

That is exactly what it looks like. I guess that is a magneto but i didnt think they had points with cap and rotor? We have some old Allis Chalmers with magneto and they dont have this. Sorry for the confusion with model 3 it is a SW6

Not sure what you mean by the "square coil" comment, but if, in fact, you have a original IH magneto, the link below will take you to the official IH Blue Ribbon magneto service manual.

Check out the section on the "H-4" magneto.

You will have to copy the link and past it into your browser, as this site won't accept it as a clickable link.
