OK - What Have I Fried???

Replaced the battery in my gas 756 and didn?t realize the positive and negative battery cables were reversed black and red by the PO.

When touching one of the cables to the battery terminal I?d get a little spark and hear what sounded like the solenoid clicking.

Noticed the cables wrong because the strap I had holding down the battery were routed wrong. Never cranked the engine. Took everything loose and noticed the backassward cables.

Hooked everything up correctly, tractor cranks over like a champ, but no fire. Have I fried my ignition coil, the condenser, both, something else or just water in the gas...

Before I tear into it, any advice is appreciated.

If it has an alternator you have fried it and good chance due to if being fried you lack spark. You did not fry the coil or points but you have a short In the alternator now. Disconnect the alternator and then check for spark

Depending on how it is wired it can in fact kill the spark due to a short. Seen it more then once. Also he said it has points so no electronic ignition

unless things have been changed the 56 series used an external voltage regulator its under the panel below the steering column between the clutch and brake pedals. this is what may have made the clicking sound. as for the ignition system a test light and volt meter may be what you need to see if there is power to the coil and distributor
