350 engine in a 504

The C153 in a 504 is not related to the C152-C175 series engines from the H-350 tractors. So your 350 engine is not a drop-in replacement.

With the right parts, some creativity, a bit of fabrication, and some time, it could be installed. One major shortcoming though will be that the 350 engine runs much slower than the 504 engine, so everything on the tractor will run about 25% slower unless you tweak the governor on the 350 engine. Of course if you tweak the governor you are now running the engine 33% faster than it was designed for, and most likely reducing its useful life.

I will second what barnyard is saying, that is a completely different family of engine, they share paint color and cubes and the IH name...that is about it...
Not sure where the 504 engine is governed at but the C169-175 in the 300 350 utilitys where set at 2000-2200 high idle..
If you do the swap please post pics and keep us happy with the winter blues...hahaha

I have a Farmall 504, and have considered doing as you, that is if the 153 goes bad. Clutch housing will bolt up, front engine mounts, which I'm sure you already thought of will need changed. Throttle linkage and air cleaner will need some modification. Have you measured the height of the 350 engine to see if it will clear the gas tank? Adjust governor to 2000 and pto speed will be about right, the 2000 rated speed was what the IH 350 was set.

504 engine rated full load rpm was 2200 per Tractor Data's Nebraska tractor tests. The International
utility 300 & 350's ran 2000 rom, Farmall rowcrops were 1750.

I doubt anything terrible would happen running a C-152/175 up to 2200 rpm. Think I'd replace the rob
bolts and magnaflus the Conn rods, I've seen a few Super H 300/350 blocks with new inspection holes in
them. And they ain't making any more new blocks.
