INTERNATIONAL 300 UTILITY

Champion D-16, or D-15Y, or D-18Y. Lots use D-21 too. There's cross reference charts on the Internet if
you want an AC, seen more than several Farmalls run fine with Champions and won't get a single pop out
of a brand new AC plug. Autolite and NGK are used also.

The D-15Y's have been in my Super H since sometime in the early 1980's. I've had BAD things happen running too hot of plugs in engines before. Gordon Jennings wrote an excellent article about spark plugs in Cycle magazine back in the early 1960's, wasn't just about motorcycles, but cars, trucks, ALL engines. It said best plug was the coldest plug that could reliably spark the engine without fouling. Too hot of plug leads to detonation, pre-ignition, chance of over-heated valves and piston tops.

If your tractor is ALWAYS going to idle around the grounds of a tractor show, never run wide open at a tractor cruise, of pull a plow for a couple minutes or couple hours at a plow day, then run hot plugs.

If you don't know who Gordon Jennings is look him up! I'm not talking about the artist or special effects creator. Gordon had an engineer from Champion help him write the article. The engineer that went to the Indy 500, and all the rest of the Indy car races, and Nascar races, and big bike races. The Engineer that the best engine builders in the country didn't feel comfortable until th Champion engineer said it was good to go the distance. I can't remember the engineer's name, the Cycle magazine is on one of about 2 dozen shelves in the basement, could take a minute or several hours to find. But I know Gordon's name and reputation. He wrote a series of articles explaining all things about engines, from oil to piston rings to bearings. Those articles are why I've kept all those Cycle magazines for 50 years.
