Farmall B saddle starter switch

Back again for some wisdom! So replaced my old burned out
starter that had a post connection with one that has pad for
saddle switch. Got rod and rocker all mounted and a new
switch. Last one stripped and cable contacted switch housing
starting a fire burning cable insulation right under sediment
bowl !!! The contact on cable is longer than insulating piece
on these crappy saddle switches so are you guys just
wrapping electrical tape around the contact all the way to the
tip or is there a rubber boot to cover some of the contact
surface? I?m considering modifying one of those side contact
battery boots to insulate part of the cable that attaches to
saddle switch

Thought I had before. Post on saddle switch stripped and flat uncovered part of cable contact arced against body of switch. The insulating square on switch is much smaller than bare area of cable

I don't know for sure what your talking about with the tape, no tape required. Here an old aluminum switch and probably a fifteen year old cheap made newer switch on the tractor. All they use for insulators is four pieces of something like gasket material or thin cardboard out of a cereal box. Your cable end has to fit perfectly, might have to grind the edges of some universal cable and maybe bend it a hair and when tightened the stud can not turn a bit or the contact will gouge through the cheap made insulator.

If the stud is tight with the jam nut then the cable just tightens down to the jam nut. If you are stripping the threads you are over tightening it. Needs to be tight but with some discretion on the wrench.

The newer switch on my tractor, pictured, has a shorter stud, no room for a jam nut
