TA Clutch Question

So i have split my 300 Utility as it had shifting issues like not disengaging from gear with pressure on the drive line, etc.

I have removed all the gearing from the front, the planetary from the rear and have inspected most everything. So here is my question, there is a lot of wear on the finger of the TA clutch fingers, is this normal? Second on the planetary clutch the rollers seem to have grooves in the clutch body, can not tell if these were machined (intentional) or worn.

Advise ??

the shifting issue you had sounds like it coule be related to a miss adjusted TA linkage. If not adjusted correctly with regular clutch linkage it makes it hard to shift out of gear. Wear on fingers, may be from wrong adjustment on linkage, I would change it while in there. As far as grooves, a picture would help. Ramp and rollers are meant to turn frely one direction but not the other to make TA work properly. Ramp has some "dips" where rollers sit, but not sure about what you call grooves. Here again if your ramp and rollers look worn, now is time to replace it or risk going back in. Did TA work on both sides before overhaul?

The TA clutch and its throwout bearing are usually not worn much. The reason is that when the TA lever is forward, the TA throwout bearing is not touching the
moving fingers. Neither they nor the bearing wear. When the TA lever is pulled, the throwout bearing and fingers stop turning near instantly. And again are
not wearing. if the TA lever is always moved from direct (forward) to TA reduction (rearward) as rapidly as possible, and returned to direct as rapidly as
possible. there will be minimal wear on all TA parts. (mine is original and still operational in a 1957 350U) The clutch pedal controls both the master engine
clutch, and the TA clutch. As the operator begins to push down the pedal the first inch, the master clutch throwout bearing closes into contact with the master
clutch fingers. Continuing on down the master clutch disengages at about 2.5 inches down. the TA linkage then begins to push on the TA throwout bearing, and
the TA clutch is released at 2/3 of the pedal travel.

I have described in the archives how to adjust this when it is put together. My description compensates for worn pins and linkage components. Try adjusting
the TA clutch so that it starts releasing just as the main clutch is released. Adjust the main clutch so the pedal moves about 1 inch at the pedal freeplay.
Then put it is third or 4th and just see where the tractor starts to pull as you let up on the clutch. Measure this amount (safely). Set the Ta clutch so its
T.O bearing is just touching the fingers at this point.
I also agree that the ramp/rollers should be replaced as well as the TA Clutch/pressure plate. Jim

If the rollers have worn a dip in the ramp where they sit, may as well repair while apart. They will still work with a small dip if all else is okay but deeper ones are not good.

I think adjustment was and is part of the
issue. The main clutch, and ta clutch
(discs) both show little wear. When I was
taking it apart I did have an issue getting
the front input shaft out. After I got it
out I noticed the coupler appeared to ne
stuck on the shaft, I had to press it off.
After apart I realized there are two
different spline sizes and it would appear
someone put it together backwards. When I
pit together correctly the coupler slides
as it should
