1066 injection pump timing

Hey guys, on my 1066 10 years ago when my grandpa was running our 1066 it ran out of fuel and they got it to run for a little bit after, made it half way to the feed yard and it quit. tried a couple things and never got it to run. they were sending the injection pump off of our 806 in to get rebuilt, so they figured might as well get the 1066's rebuilt too. well they got it back and put it on and never could get it to run. I tried timing it once and never got it to start but it was blowing white smoke out of the stack, so i thought i was 180 out so i took it back off and rotated it put it all back together and it wasnt even puffing white smoke. havent tried for a while but its warming up so i thought i'd try again soon. any ideas? also injection pump we got back from the guy for the 806 was the wrong one so weve been out two tractors for years.
 
Go buy a 30 dollar I&T manual and set it EXACTLY by the book.It will run,unless something else is wrongPull the valve cover and use #1 E&I valves to determine if your TDC is right,or 180 out. All that white smoke tells me you are most likely 'timed' slow.It will smoke like a freight train but will never start.
 
The 1066 is timed at 18 degrees BTDC, pump runs at engine speed. The 806 pump runs 1/2 engine speed. Question, did you time the 1066 BEFORE pump was removed?? If not start over and time the pump at 18 BTDC and lock the gear bolts down. Leave the gear cover off, bleed the system then try to start the engine. If it DOES start shut it down and put the cover on as it's in time. If it DOES NOT start, reset it to 18 degrees, remove the pump drive gear bolts and turn the pump shaft with a 7/8 socket ONE TURN and install gear again. While the Ambac M100 runs engine speed, the hydraulic head turns 1/2 speed same as the engine camshaft does. Always best on that one to time it first. I tell my customers to time it, then DON'T let anyone turn the pump after it's off. I look inside and see if pump is on #1 or #6, and return the pump the same way.
