why would you have a volt. reg hooked up to a 12v alternator. rewiring an M that has been changed over to 12v but there is a volt reg on it...…..????

using bob M's wiring diagram doesnt show a reg. on it

any ideas?

All depends on what alternator was used for the conversion. The early alt. used an external regulator. Can you post a picture of the alt?
 
Bob probably uses a one wire alt. A regulator isn't need for that application.If the current harness is a cobbled 'cluster^%$#',you would be better off to completely strip out the old and start over.
 

My 1940 M was converted before I bought it. Delco alternator with external regulator. It works, so I left it that way.
 
When our 300 was converted to 12 volt they left the regulator mounted not hooked up correctly but switched a few wires around basically
using it as a junction terminal so it might be there but not in a regulatory format any more
