SuperH seal leaking at front of transmission

At the front of the rear chassis there is a shaft that comes out and connects to the hydraulic pump.I appear to be leaking rear end oil past the seal. it looks like there is a collar the connect s a shat coming out of the rear chassis and connect to a shaft from the hydraulic pump. If I remove the collar it looks like there is a flange bolted to rear chassis can I simply drain the oil from rear end and remove the flange and put in new seal. I have searched through a repair manual I have but can not find any diagrams of this. thanks in advance for the help.

You will have to remove the pump. The pump drive shaft threads onto the the output shaft of the transmission. I believe it is a standard right hand thread. It can be a bear to get off sometimes. Once that is off the seal retainer is held on with four bolts. You should take a good look at the pump drive shaft at the seal location to make sure it isn't scored from the old oil seal. My guess is that is the original seal that was made out of rawhide and is well past its prime.

No need to remove the pump, the drive shaft comes out easily with cotter pins. Drain the trans. The coupler is lefty loosy. Put it in High Gear, and block the wheels. Use a flat piece of 1/2in thick steel bar (about 2' long), and put some force on it and hit the bar with a hammer to shock it loose. Then remove the bearing/seal retainer.

My Stage 2 Super H, live hyd, no belly pump just had a gasket over the front end of the lower transmission shaft. But I have a picture of it from about late summer 1968 with the oil seeping between the clutch housing and transmission.
Was probably around 1998 or '99 I installed all the new gaskets, seals and felts I bought to dry up all the leaks. Worst leak was top shaft, The old Chicago Rawhide seal was wore out bad! New rubber seal has kept it dry for 20 years now. Both axle carrier end seals are still dry. Just the left one leaked, replaced it around 2000, then weeks later the right started leaking, about 2014 I fixed it. Still need to seal the PTO. It's not leaking that much, but if I used the PTO it would really leak.

I forget what year it was, sometime in the late 1980's or 1990's a Super H made the front cover of RPM magazine with a real bad seal leak at the clutch housing to transmission joint. A little Brake-Kleen and a shop towel cleans it up for at least a couple days.
