Question: Hydraulic Fluid for a Farmall 300 Utility

I have this 1955 Farmall 300 Utility that I’m trying to fix up for my son and I need some advice about the hydraulics system. There was water in the hydraulic system (all milky looking) so I drained it. I want to refill it but am uncertain as to what hydraulic fluid to use. My supplier has three types (303, 46 & 32), all selling for the same price.

What do I use in this Farmall 300 Utility? What is the real difference?

If it is being used for farm work, or hydraulic related real work, it should have Hytran, or John Deere HyGuard Oil. (they meet the same spec) other fluids may not be all they
indicate. If a different fluid is chosen, read on the label that it meets Hytran or HyGuard qualifications. Jim

Either of those oils should also be used in the trans and differential (same fill hole for both different drain holes) as well as the under seat fill hole for the Hydraulic reservoir. Jim

Yes, He is hoping to use it with a Howse mower to mow his 25 acres in west Texas to keep the ticks and chiggers down. The Howse 5 foot mower is to attached via the quick connect (we will have to rig something), so the hydraulics will be used to lift the the mower.

OK. If I understand correctly, Hy-Tran goes in the hydraulics and the differential/transmission. Something like 10 gallons. No additives and get Hy-Tran and not anything that doesn't say Hy_Tran or Hy-Tran equivalent.

I can do that.
