Follow up Farmall M high idle

For those of you that read my most maybe a week or more ago know I was having trouble with my tractor not idling low. It is now idling low like it should. I took the carb back off and apart and soaked it in cleaner and for whatever reason it now is running like it should not sure exactly what it was but I hope that this helps someone with a similar problem in the future. Thanks for everyone?s help

that is a real mystery if you had the governor tab in its slot the first time. throttle plate had to be not closing. is this the first time u took the carb apart?

No I?ve actually had it apart 3 or 4 times but used a strong cleaner to soak it this time. I feel certain I had it in the slot before as well I was able to pull the throttle tube back and look in the crack with a flashlight to see it in there so I?m with you on the mystery part but it?s idling down now so I guess the problem is solved

ya, you need to soak them for a couple hrs. in the actual carb gunk. then rinse in cool water and blow out all passages with air. this way you can also see if the passages are open.

Did you have the throttle plate unscrewed/ removed
from the throttle shaft??

Our SMTA wouldn't idle down after the mechanic at
the dealership overhauled it & rebuilt the carb.
Long story short--we ran it this way for probably
10 years until I took it apart to see what was
going on. Dad wouldn't let me take it apart to look.
The mechanic didn't get the throttle plate centered
in the bore. Other thing was he had the throttle plate
upside down on the shaft.

Been working perfectly since.

Had about the same on M pto. Farmer took it out, put it back in and would not shut off. Shaft was under trans. shaft to where it was suppose to be.
