Air cleaner jar

I'm sure this question has been posted before but - what glass jar was used on the H,M, etc. air cleaners. Iv'e
seen pint sized "Ball, Special, Wide Mouth" advertised as original equipment. If this is so, there are several
variations of this jar. Which one is correct, if any.

I appreciate the info and knowledge everyone is willing to take the time to share, no matter who or what the
question is.

One pint Ball special wide mouth. There are 4 ribs, one on each corner, going down the corner from top to bottom. Jim

That's what I thought, thanks for confirming it. I'm thinking the older original jars had larger, higher raised cast lettering than newer jars to.

I have what I take to be is an original jar. My tractor is a 1950 H sold by an old IHC mechanic, to me. The jar is Ball Special Wide Mouth, Made in USA, with 8 small ribs, vertical, 1 inch long. Reason I think it is original? First time I removed it, the original O-ring dropped out. It was used to seal the top off, and was held in place by the jar. Molded into one side, it reads UNITED STATES AMERICA star star 66776-D Old-fashion IHC circle-emblem. It is black, hard rubber after all these years, and is 3/16 diameter, 3 3/16 OD. I take it the 66776-D is the old IHC part number. Put away for safe keeping.

Our SMTA has the original jar stuck in the threads.
Can't turn it loose now.
Any ideas on getting it off? Hate to try penetrating
oil or some type of solvent---might swell the o-ring
& be tighter than ever.
Thanks.
Jim

Ball may have been what IH used but in the same time period Kerr and Atlas also made a raised letter special jar with same size threads that would fit them. The older raised letter ones are getting hard to find. My mother use to use those wide mouth jars for putting up jams and jelly.I don't remember any O ring on tractors but when used for food they used a flat rubber seal and some had a lid with seal up on it.

I had success getting one loose by taking the head and jar off of the tractor and soaking it overnight in a bucket of water. The water seemed to soften the dirt and rust that had accumulated in the threads over the years. Some dish detergent in the water might help too.

Ball perfect mason on my Super C, Ball special wide mouth on my Super M.

But I guess I can't say for sure they're correct.

Iv'e looked at 2 other jar pics that were supposed to have come off original M's (1950,1951) and they look exactly like your Super M jar. All three jars have placement of the letters in the exact same location - up/down, left/right, etc. in relation to each other. Other jars Iv'e seen have the same wording but slightly different placement. Production years of jar wording placement probably changed over time, but could still be correct for that year of tractor. Your pic is very helpful in finding the most likely correct jar - Iv'e got a 1953 Super M. Thanks Gab!
