Farmall Super A transmission Sluminum shavings

In the process of rebuilding the Super A. When I got the transmission opened up to replace seals and check for bearing wear I found a tablespoon or more of aluminum shaving in the transmission and rear differential area. The only aluminum part in the transmission is a 6? diameter oil splasher. The outside diameter surface is very smooth as if it was machined. It turns smoothly on the shaft behind what I think is 1st gear in the bottom backend of transmission area.
When I look at it closer it is suppose to mesh with a gear directly above it that is suppose to drive the oil splasher gear.
So how serious is this?
Are these oil splashers still available?
Where to find?
Rest of the gears and bearings seem to be in very good shape

You can still get the oil slinger gear from several venders. The other gears will sling oil when the tractor is moving but when sitting still only the oil slinger is providing lube to the bearings. This is most important when doing belt work as the tractor is sitting still for extended periods of time and the engine is running.

The transmission is sitting on the bench. Just need to locate a new part then figure out how to get the gears out and back in.

The aluminum oil slinger gear 58640D (replaced by 354643R11) is still available from FIAT. ($300.00)

Or GOOGLE the part numbers I posted for used, NOS, or aftermarket options.

(quoted from post at 04:30:27 02/15/19) as a point of info : how long would one of these oil slingers doing occasional (2hrs/yr) belt work last? Thanks. Pembroke

Whether or not you are going "belt work" makes no difference to the oil slinger gear, it is turning as long as the engine is turning with the clutch engaged.

I don't know why they sometimes fail, in cold areas, perhaps some fail when there's frozen water in the bottom of the transmission, and perhaps some fail if the trans. is run low on oil, others go about forever.
