1486 park paw

We are trying to remove the hi-lo-rev cover and cannot raise it more than a 1/4-1/2 inch. We believe the paw has dropped and wedged it self. We fabricated a hook to reach thru the remote return fitting hole, and can grab onto the paw, but cannot get it loose. Has anyone else had this happen? Any ideas/help is appreciated.Thanks,Mark.

when i d one i always take it out of park put a half inch nut under the the park leaver befog i undo the linkage or it well go back in to park and you wont be able to get the cover off . you may need to set it back on the transmission if you can and get it out park thy are still a b. to get off..

We did have the nut under the lever on the cover. We think the paw assembly has came apart and has wedged into the gear, and that it needs dislodged to be able to raise the cover. We tried rocking the tractor while attempting to pull the paw over with a bent rod we made, but,no joy. Mark.

More likely to be the reverse fork holding at the top of the shift shaft. If it is only coming up about a 1/4 inch. If you can slip something in under the lid you might be able to get the shaft to drop down. If not then you will ned to remove the cover on the left side to get to the fork and shaft.

Well on a 1486 you must block up the park linkage by placing a 1/2 in Bolt head or NUT under the bellcrank in other words 3/4 of and inch to hold the park loc paw in the unlock . Next you are fighting the rev. shift shaft . Ya need to remove the side cover and it is probably behind the fuel tank if ya have two tanks on that beast like most do since you do not have the range cover removal tool . OR Your in for the fight of your life if what happened to yours as it did on a 1086 i worked on back maybe 6 years ago , and on that one the pin that holds the park paw to the bracket had worked it's way out about 2/3rds. the way out and it would NOT allow the top cover to come up and a simple two hour job of replacing the shifter detent spring and roller turned into 14 hours of pure fighting a fuseen and coming up with a way to drive that pin back in forward so that the cover could come off . That took hours of barn yard engineering of making a wedge shaped tool the would fit between the top cover and the case with the correct bends and a bevel to drive the pin in . The farmer already had the fuel tank out when i got there .Do i want to do another one just like that , One word NO.

Hey Vet- can you describe the tool you made a little better. We had the bellcrank lever pried up with the nut. And yes -we were taking it apart to replace the detent spring. Sounds like we got the same problem you had. The left side cover is off, and the reverse fork shaft is not the hang up. It is the paw. Thanks, Mark.

i had forgot about that tool i have one it a round pice of pipe about two inch in diameter like two inches high with set screws in the sid so you can clamp it on the the raised pice on the cover has a t handle that is tap in to top that you screw down to force the shaft pin out of top cover i got mine from http://www.agpartsltd.com i look on there web site but dont see it now i see i can remember to take pic and post it that one job i hope i never see again
