Help removing crankshaft pulley

The interference fit is nasty. Some may have a set screw, but either way it will likely be necessary to use a good bearing splitter behind the pulley and a solid puller to a bolt screwed into the crank snout. Heat will be needed to warm the pulley (not red hot but not touchable warm). Jim

Even if you use a bearing separator, you can still break the pulley.

Do you have an oxy-acetylene torch? Heat it. Your little propane or MAPP firestarters won't do. You need oxygen enhanced heat.

You're going to replace the front seal anyway, so who cares if you damage it with the heat?

If you need to heat the pully take note from how an older metal worker who took mine off,. Don't heat directly on the hub of the pully. START out from the hub on the web about 1/3 to 1/2 the way out and slowly move in. Using oxy propane or actanlene heat and gently pull using a proper pulling block at the back of the hub arround the shaft. Tighten up the puller to very snug, heat. The hub will move a short way. Repear till it comes off. As others have said check for a set screw before heating.
This same method will also remove stuck or stubborn gears in the power take off, so one can replace bearings and inside seals.

Well as for me i have the correct toys for the job as i have a OTC bearing splitter and it goes with my 10 ton OTC puller set and it pulls them with out damage . When reinstalling i heat them in oil to 250 degrees and stuff them on and let cool.
